There are few things I enjoy more than a great story.

Whether it’s a movie, a novel, or hearing someone tell the story of their life over dinner, every good story has moments that make you laugh, cry, or wonder how everything could possibly come together.

But here’s what we’ve learned from every great story:

You never judge the ending by one difficult chapter.

Too many of us are tempted to do exactly that with our lives.

One doctor’s report…
One financial setback…
One broken relationship…
One unanswered prayer…

…and suddenly we begin wondering if this is how our story ends.

That question is exactly why we’re beginning this new series, God’s Not Done.

Not because life has been easy.

Not because we’ve never failed.

Not because we’ve never questioned God.

But because the Author of our story is still writing.

Before the Pressure Comes…

Romans 5 opens in an interesting way.

Paul doesn’t begin with suffering.

He begins with what already belongs to every believer.

Before he ever talks about perseverance…
Before he ever talks about character…
Before he ever mentions hope…

He reminds us of what is already ours because of Jesus Christ.

Justification.

Peace with God.

Access to Grace.

Hope for the future.

In other words…

It’s there.

One of the greatest tricks pressure plays on us is making us forget what God has already provided.

Pressure whispers:

“Maybe God left.”

“Maybe He forgot about you.”

“Maybe you’ve exhausted His grace.”

But Paul reminds us that pressure doesn’t change God.

It changes our memory.

The truth is, your standing with God isn’t based on today’s circumstances. It’s based on Christ’s finished work.

That means before today’s battle ever arrived…

Grace was already there.

Peace was already there.

Hope was already there.

God Has Already Credited Your Account

One illustration from this message continues to stick with me.

Think about your bank account.

When money is credited to your account, your balance changes immediately. Your purchasing power changes before you ever swipe your card.

Spiritually, that’s exactly what happened when we trusted Christ.

Our account was bankrupt.

Jesus took our debt.

Then God credited Christ’s righteousness to our account.

That’s why we don’t spend our lives trying to earn God’s approval.

We already have it.

We don’t obey to be accepted.

We obey because we’ve already been accepted.

That’s life-changing.

The Road Is Still Hard

None of this means life suddenly becomes easy.

Paul immediately shifts from celebrating salvation to acknowledging suffering.

That surprises many people.

We often assume following Jesus should remove hardship.

Paul says something different.

God doesn’t waste hardship.

He uses it.

Suffering produces perseverance.

Perseverance produces character.

Character produces hope.

Notice that suffering isn’t the destination.

Hope is.

God never intended pain to be the final chapter of your story.

Don’t Take the Exit Ramp

One of the most practical moments of this message was the picture of an exit ramp.

When life gets difficult, we’re all tempted to take shortcuts.

Bitterness.

Compromise.

Isolation.

Giving up.

Walking away.

The enemy knows he can’t stop God’s work in your life.

So he’ll try to convince you to leave the process before God finishes it.

Stay on the road.

God is producing something inside you that shortcuts can never create.

Hope Never Runs Dry

Paul finishes with one incredible promise:

“Hope does not put us to shame.”

The world offers promises that disappoint.

People fail us.

Positions disappear.

Money runs out.

Health changes.

But God’s hope never humiliates those who trust Him.

Why?

Because His love continues to be poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit.

The cross wasn’t a one-time gift with an expiration date.

Its power still reaches us today.

His grace still flows.

His peace still remains.

His hope still fills empty hearts.

It never runs dry.

My Prayer For You

Maybe today you’re living through one of the hardest chapters you’ve ever faced.

Don’t mistake this chapter for the conclusion.

God hasn’t put the pen down.

Your story isn’t over.

Your faith isn’t finished.
