When God Rewrites Your Story

When God Rewrites Your Story

When God Rewrites Your Story

Primary Texts: Mark 16:1–8, John 20:24–29

Family, have you ever watched a movie where you thought you knew how it was going to end?

You saw the pain.
You saw the loss.
You saw the betrayal.

And somewhere along the way you told yourself, “This is how it ends.”

But then—out of nowhere—the story flips.

The person you thought was done gets back up.
The thing you thought was dead starts breathing again.
The ending you expected… isn’t the ending you got.

That’s a plot twist.

And Easter is the greatest plot twist in history.

What Looked Final… Wasn’t Final

The cross looked like defeat.
The tomb looked like the end.
The grief looked permanent.

But God had another ending in mind.

And that’s the good news—because some of us walked in carrying things that feel final.

  • Disappointment

  • Grief

  • Confusion

  • Silent struggles

But resurrection reminds us:
God is still rewriting stories.

When You’re Worried About the Stone

In Mark 16, the women are walking to the tomb asking:

“Who will roll the stone away?”

They came expecting death… not a miracle.

And if we’re honest, we’ve all had moments like that.

Moments where life hits so hard that we stop expecting God to move.

We start saying:

  • “I’m just trying to get through.”

  • “It is what it is.”

  • “I’m managing, not believing.”

But here’s the shout:

While they were still asking the question… God had already moved the stone.

There are things you’re still worrying about
that God has already started working out.

Your Doubt Doesn’t Disqualify You

Then we meet Thomas.

Not just doubting—he’s grieving.

He lost what he thought his future would be.
And pain made him say:

“Unless I see it… I won’t believe.”

And let’s be real—that’s where many people are today.

Not because they don’t love God…
but because life didn’t turn out the way they expected.

But here’s what changes everything:

Jesus didn’t avoid Thomas—He came back for him.

He walked into the room and said:

“Peace be with you.”

Not shame.
Not guilt.
Not “you should’ve known better.”

Just peace.

That means:

  • You’re not disqualified because you questioned

  • You’re not out because you struggled

  • You’re not rejected because you wrestled

Jesus will meet you right where you are.

A Personal God Meets You Personally

Jesus didn’t give Thomas a generic response.

He gave him a tailor-made encounter:

“Put your finger here.”
“See my hands.”

Why?

Because Jesus knows exactly what you need.

  • What strengthens one person may not strengthen another

  • What heals one heart may look different for another

But the same risen Savior still meets people personally.

The Real Plot Twist

Thomas expected absence…
He got presence.

Thomas expected silence…
He got peace.

Thomas expected doubt…
He got an encounter.

And the wounds that looked like loss?
They became proof of victory.

That’s resurrection power.

You Are Not Your Worst Moment

When the angel speaks, he says:

“Go tell the disciples… and Peter.”

Why Peter?

Because Peter failed publicly.
Because Peter denied Jesus.
Because Peter probably thought he was finished.

But resurrection calls him by name.

Because God doesn’t define you by your worst moment.

He restores:

  • The one who failed

  • The one who ran

  • The one who feels ashamed

Your story is not over.

Final Word

When life says, “This is the end,”
God says, “Plot twist.”

When pain says, “It’s finished,”
God says, “Plot twist.”

When doubt says, “You’re done,”
God says, “Plot twist.”

Because Jesus got up…
hope can get up too.
