The Power of Prayer

Have you ever been in a place where the best thing someone could do for you wasn’t to give advice, money, or even encouragement—but simply to pray for you?

That’s the heartbeat of John 17. On the night before His betrayal, Jesus—knowing the cross was ahead—didn’t perform another miracle or preach another sermon. He prayed.

And He didn’t just pray for His disciples in that room… He prayed for you and me.

“I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message.”
— John 17:20 (NLT)

If Jesus thought it was necessary to pray in His most crucial moment, how much more should we ask for and offer prayer today?

Pray for My Joy

Jesus prayed:

“I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy.”
— John 17:13 (NLT)

Notice this—He didn’t pray for riches, fame, or comfort. He prayed for joy. Because joy isn’t about circumstances; it’s about the unshakable peace that comes from God.

Too often we ask for relief instead of joy. We want a pacifier to soothe us through the storm instead of the strength to endure it. But Jesus’ prayer was deeper: Lord, give them joy that can’t be stolen.

📣 Don’t just wish me happiness—pray for my joy!

Pray for My Stability

Jesus also prayed that His followers would remain in the world and yet not be consumed by it. He wasn’t asking God to remove them, but to sustain them.

Stability doesn’t mean no storms—it means standing strong in the storm.

  • When doubt creeps in… pray for my stability.
  • When I feel overwhelmed… pray for my stability.
  • When I want to quit… pray for my stability.

True stability is built through daily prayer, digging deeper into Scripture, building godly community, and persevering through trials.

📣 Lord, don’t just let me escape the storm—help me stand in it.

Pray That I See the Truth

“Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.”
— John 17:17 (NLT)

We can’t endure what we can’t see. Lies of the enemy, cultural noise, and inner battles all try to distort our vision. But God’s Word cuts through the fog.

When you pray for me, pray that I see truth:

  • The truth about who God is.
  • The truth about who I am in Him.
  • The truth about what He’s called me to do.

Because when I can see truth clearly, I can walk boldly.

📣 Open my eyes, Lord!

Why This Matters

Prayer isn’t pity. Prayer isn’t performance. Prayer is power.

That’s why the most honest cry of our hearts sometimes isn’t “Cheer for me” or “Rescue me.” It’s simply: pray for me.

And here at Resurgence, that’s who we are—a church that gets plugged into God, Family, Service, and Destiny. A community where your joy is restored, your stability is strengthened, and your eyes are opened to the truth.

Closing Prayer

Father, thank You that Jesus prayed for us. Today I ask that You fill me with Your joy, keep me stable in every storm, and open my eyes to Your truth. Help me to both receive prayer and offer prayer for others, so that together we may walk in the power of Your love. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
