Your Life Is a Sermon

Your Life Is a Sermon

John 4:28-30, 39-42

Last week, we learned that the Gospel is for sharing.

But if we’re honest, that idea can feel intimidating.

Many of us think sharing our faith requires having all the answers, knowing every Bible verse, or being able to explain every theological question someone may ask. We think we need a microphone, a platform, or a seminary degree before God can use us.

But then we meet a woman at a well.

She wasn’t a preacher.

She wasn’t a theologian.

She wasn’t perfect.

She had a past.

She had pain.

She had regrets.

And yet God used her story to bring an entire town to Jesus.

And maybe that’s good news for all of us.

Because your life is a sermon.

Not because your life is perfect.

But because Jesus is.

Christ Meets You

John tells us that Jesus “had to go through Samaria.” Most Jews avoided Samaria because of generations of hostility, prejudice, and division. Yet Jesus intentionally walked into the place everyone else avoided.

Why?

Because grace had an appointment.

Before the woman knew His name, Jesus already knew hers.

She thought she was coming for water.

Jesus knew she was coming for salvation.

She thought she was carrying a bucket.

Jesus knew she was carrying a burden.

And that’s still how Jesus works.

He meets us right where we are.

Not after we get our lives together.

Not after we become worthy.

Not after we fix ourselves.

He meets us in the middle of the mess.

The greatest miracle in the story isn’t that the woman found Jesus.

It’s that Jesus found her.

And if grace can cross centuries of hostility to reach a Samaritan woman at a well, grace can reach you too.

Christ Confronts You

Eventually, the conversation shifts.

Jesus says:

“Go, call your husband.”

Suddenly, the discussion moves from water to wounds.

From thirst to truth.

From what she wanted to what she truly needed.

But Jesus wasn’t trying to shame her.

He was trying to save her.

God doesn’t expose us to embarrass us.

He exposes us to heal us.

Most of us want relief.

Jesus wants transformation.

He lovingly confronts the places in our lives that continue to leave us empty.

Because grace meets us where we are.

But grace loves us too much to leave us there.

And if you’re honest, some of the hardest seasons of your life have become some of the greatest chapters in your testimony.

The chapter you wanted to hide became the chapter God wanted to use.

Now Make an Introduction

After meeting Jesus, the woman does something remarkable.

She leaves her water jar behind and runs back into town saying:

“Come, see a man…”

She didn’t have all the answers.

She didn’t have a theology degree.

She didn’t have a sermon manuscript.

She simply made an introduction.

That’s evangelism.

Her testimony got them there.

Jesus took it from there.

Some of us don’t share our faith because we think we have to save people.

But that’s not our job.

Our job is the introduction.

Jesus handles the transformation.

You don’t have to tell every detail.

You don’t have to answer every question.

You simply have to tell someone:

  • Where Jesus found you.

  • How He changed you.

  • Why you still have hope.

Because your life is a sermon.

Share the Hope

As we continue this series, I want to challenge you to do two things:

1. Tell Your Story

You don’t have to be perfect.

You don’t have to know everything.

Just tell somebody what Jesus has done in your life.

Tell them where He met you.

Tell them how He changed you.

Tell them why you still have hope.

2. Make an Introduction

Pray for someone.

Encourage someone.

Check on someone.

Invite someone.

Because the person you’re praying for today may be the person standing beside you worshipping God tomorrow.

Share the Hope…

Because Jesus met me.

Share the Hope…

Because Jesus confronted me.

Share the Hope…

Now I get to make an introduction.

And if you don’t know what to say…

Just do what the woman did:

“Come see a man.”
