This weekend at Resurgence Church, we leaned into a truth many of us wrestle with privately: we are often waiting for the “perfect time” before we fully move in faith.
We tell ourselves:
“When life settles down…”
“When my finances improve…”
“When I feel more confident…”
“When I heal from this…”
“When I finally get serious with God…”
But if we’re honest, hesitation can become a lifestyle.
In 2 Kings 13, the prophet Elisha is dying. The nation is unstable. The military is weak. The enemy is pressing in. Nothing about the environment feels safe or ideal. Yet in the middle of all that uncertainty, Elisha tells King Jehoash:
“Open the window.”
That one instruction carries a powerful reminder for all of us:
Many of us think God only moves when everything is organized, peaceful, and under control. But throughout Scripture, God consistently reveals His power in unstable environments.
Daniel saw God move in a lion’s den.
Esther saw God move in political pressure.
Peter experienced restoration after failure.
The message is clear:
God does not need perfect conditions to perform perfect work.
Sometimes Heaven is still giving clearance even while the storm clouds remain overhead.
The window is still open.
One of the most surprising parts of this text is who God chooses to work through.
Jehoash was compromised. He struggled spiritually. He led imperfectly. Yet God still gave him instruction, opportunity, and victory.
Why?
Because this story is not just about the king’s character.
It’s about God’s mercy.
God often creates opportunities for people who haven’t fully figured everything out yet.
That’s grace.
Not because God ignores sin—but because He loves us enough to meet us where we are while calling us higher.
Somebody reading this needs to hear:
You do not have to become perfect before God can begin working in your life.
The cross already settled your worth.
The tragedy of the story is not that God lacked power.
The tragedy is that the king responded halfway.
When Elisha told Jehoash to strike the ground with the arrows, he only struck it three times. The prophet became angry because God was willing to do more than the king had faith to pursue.
How often do we do the same thing?
We hesitate because:
we fear failure,
we question our worth,
we carry shame,
we doubt ourselves,
or our motives are divided.
But our worth is not found in “the shot.”
It’s not in the opportunity.
It’s not in the applause.
It’s not in success.
Our worth was settled at Calvary.
Because when your identity is rooted in God:
you can obey boldly,
trust deeply,
fail forward,
and keep moving even when life feels uncertain.
The beautiful truth of the Gospel is this:
Jesus Christ became the greatest “open window” humanity has ever known.
At the cross, He defeated:
sin,
shame,
fear,
insecurity,
condemnation,
and death itself.
And because of Him, you do not have to live hesitating anymore.
This is perfect—
not because life is perfect,
but because God is still sovereign in the middle of imperfect situations.
The window is still open.
Now is the time to move in faith.
